The Green Project (GP) is a Non Governmental Organization (N.G.O.) created out of the voluntary initiative of a group of 73 scientists and artists with the purpose of forging environmental conscience through artistic creation. Its 5 member Executive Committee includes: (a) Dr T. Anagnostopoulos, biologist-researcher in Democritus Research Institute, Athens, (b) Dr H. Kanetaki, architect engineer National Technical University of Athens, university professor Technological Educational Institute, Piraeus, (c) M. Pesli, director-artist Athens School of Fine Arts (d) P. Soteres, mechanical engineer, Eurobank, (e) Dr I. Tzortzis, attorney at law at the Supreme Court,  Regulatory Authority for Energy, Greece, photographer, Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. In “GREEN PROJECT IN ASIA 2008: Athens-Beijing from the silk roads to the energy roads”, apart from: (a) Dr T. Anagnostopoulos, (b) Dr H. Kanetaki and (c) Dr I. Tzortzis, took part the following: (d) E. Agapoulakis, cameraman, (e) A. Apostolakis, civil engineer, co-founder of E-shop.gr, (f) G. Dimopoulos, economist, National Bank of Greece (g) Dr N. Zografakis, mechanical engineer, university professor Technological Educational Institute, Crete, director of the Regional Energy Agency of Crete, (h) G. Lasdas, car mechanic, (i) N. Striligas, communication expert, and (j) M. Choulaki, artist. From 1/8 till 7/9/2008, the abovementioned 10 member GP crew team has traveled along a course of 13.000 km, beginning from Athens and finally ending in Beijing, using low CO2 emission technology vehicles and public transport. The crew has embarked on a quest on the one-time "silk roads" itinerary, which is now defined by the natural gas pipelines, recording in 30.000 photographs and 40 hours of documentary film the most important sites of bioclimatic architecture (15 monuments of the UNESCO World Heritage List) and  renewable energy sources (13 installations). Special presentations to authorities and the general public, of the aim and the artistic work of the GP, took place in Greece (Komotini), Turkey (Ankara), Georgia (Tbilisi), Azerbaijan (Baku), Turkmenistan (Ashgabat), Uzbekistan (Tashkent), Kazakhstan (Almaty) and China (Beijing). An exhibition of the above material is going to take place in the Municipal Gallery of Agios Nikolaos, Crete 8/9/2009 20.00.

The GP is held under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and the City of Athens. It is amiably supported by the Office of the European Parliament, the President of the Greek Parliament and the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Greece. Its sponsors are the National Bank of Greece and the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (D.E.S.F.A.) S.A. Its supporters include the European Public Law Organization, the N.G.O. Ecosan of Uzbekistan, the Centre of Renewable Energy Sources, the Regional Energy Agency of Crete, the Municipality of Heraklion, Crete, the Association of Photovoltaic Companies, the Greek Scientific Association of Wind Energy, BP Solar, E-Shop.gr, the Hellenic Automobile Touring Association, the Hellenic Institute of Electric Vehicles, the Hellenic Alumni Associations of LSE, and Columbia University. The communication sponsors include the television channel MEGA, the radio stations "Athens 9,84" of the Municipality of Athens and ΣΚΑΙ 100,3, the "Eleftherotypia" newspaper and the "Geotropio" magazine, the free press newspaper "Metro", the website of "Naftemporiki.gr" newspaper, and the magazines "Autocar", "4 Wheel Drive", "Science Illustrated", "Anemologia" and "Energy Point".

final-program Παρουσίαση του Green Project στο 8ο Επιστημονικό Συμπόσιο με θέμα “Περιβαλλοντικός Σχεδιασμός πόλεων & κτιρίων στην εποχή της κλιματικής αλλαγής“, που οργανώθηκε στην Κεφαλονιά κατά τις 17-19 Οκτωβρίου 2008 (αίθουσα Εμπορικού και Βιοτεχνικού Επιμελητηρίου Κεφαλονιάς και Ιθάκης). Η εισήγηση της Ε. Κανετάκη εστίασε στο δεύτερο στόχο της Αποστολής, τον εντοπισμό των βιοκλιματικών παραμέτρων σχεδιασμού στα μνημεία που έχουν ενταχθεί από την Ουνέσκο στον Κατάλογο της Παγκόσμιας Κληρονομιάς και τα οποία εντοπίζονταν στην πορεία της διαδρομής που το Πράσινο Οδοιπορικό υλοποίησε το καλοκαίρι 2008. Η Επιστημονική και Οργανωτική Επιτροπή του Συμποσίου αποτελείτο από τους κ.κ. Η. Μπεριάτο (ΙΚΙ, Πρόεδρο της Επιτροπής), Χ. Σπίρτζη (ΤΕΕ), Μ. Παπαγεωργίου (ΤΜΧΠΠΑ), Ν. Φυντικάκη (UIA-ARES), Σ. Καπλάνη (ΑΤΕΙ Πάτρας), Γ. Γεμενετζή (ΑΠΘ) και Β. Κωστοβασίλη (ΣΑΔΑΣ). Διοργανωτές του Συμποσίου ήταν το Ίδρυμα Κεφαλονιάς και Ιθάκης (ΙΚΙ), το Τεχνικό Επιμελητήριο Ελλάδος (ΤΕΕ), το Τμήμα Μηχανικών Χωροταξίας, Πολεοδομίας και Περιφερειακής Ανάπτυξης, Παν. Θεσσαλίας (ΤΜΧΠΠΑ).
